Georgian Court University Recognized for Student Success Initiative

Georgian Court University in Lakewood, NJ was recognized as a Model of Excellence by University Business in late 2015 for their Chart the Course program designed to improve student success.

The institution realized that new students earning 30 or more credits in their first year were more likely to subsequently return for a second year.  The Chart the Course program was designed to offer free tuition for selected courses during the winter and summer breaks if students had not earned 30 credits.  An orientation program involving faculty, success coaches, and peer tutors was offered to assist students.  The retention rate of participating students was 86 percent, exceeding the institutional rate by 12 percent.
Georgian Court was founded in 1908 and sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy.  The institution was initially located in North Plainfield, NJ and was known as Mount Saint Mary College.  The name changed to Georgian Court College following a move to Lakewood in 1924.  Georgian Court enrolls just over 2,300 students.
